Genesis reveals pricing for enhanced 2024 G70 sport sedan

GENESIS MOTORS CANADA -
Genesis has just announced Canadian pricing and packaging for the newly enhanced 2024 G70 sport sedan. Starting from $53,000, the 2024 G70 features an improved driving dynamics and braking capabilities, added standard convenience features, and a renewed focus on the interior cabin experience.

“The 2024 G70 strikes the perfect balance between performance and comfort,” says Eric Marshall, director of Genesis Motors Canada. “The combination of the 300hp engine and high-performance Brembo brakes offer an even more dynamic driving experience, while the refreshed interior cabin provides a heightened sense of serenity. We can’t wait for guests to experience the newly enhanced G70.”

Genesis will offer the updated 2024 G70 with two powertrain options for the Canadian market: the new 2.5L turbocharged inline four-cylinder gasoline engine and the popular 3.3L twin-turbocharged V6.

The 2024 G70 2.5T Advanced is offered at $53,000. It comes equipped with Genesis’ Highway Driving Assist which combines a suite of safety and driver assistance features. New features include a touch-type climate control display and frameless rear-view mirror. Improvements have been made to designs and details like the multi-function switches, door and console garnish patterns, air vents, cup holders, and key fob.

The updated G70 gets Genesis Digital Key with Near Field Communication (NFC) compatibility as standard. Digital Key is included with Genesis Connected Services and can be set up with your Genesis Intelligent Assistant app. Digital keys can be used with compatible Apple, Samsung, and Google smart phones. Genesis Digital Key also allows the vehicle owner to share keys with others. For example, a driver with a compatible device may share their key with another via text/SMS, and revoke access to the vehicle with the click of a button.

New exterior colours Vatna Grey and Kawah Blue take cues from the volcanic landscapes of Iceland and Indonesia, inspired by the brand’s love of travel. Genesis has also expanded the range of interior colour selections by adding Obsidian Black/Fog Grey.

The 2024 G70 3.3T is priced at $58,000, offering enhanced standard features and design details including, ventilated front seats, Lexicon® Premium Audio, a wide sunroof, electronically controlled suspension, and variable gear ratio power steering.

New 2024 Nissan Z NISMO: Amplifying the sports car experience

NISSAN CANADA -
The 2024 Nissan Z doubles down on thrilling performance with the return of Z NISMO, delivering an exhilarating track-ready experience for enthusiast drivers. The NISMO grade builds on the capabilities of the Z Sport and Performance grades for those who seek more excitement and dynamic performance. Targeted enhancements amplify the precisely tuned Z to excite drivers of all abilities.

Z NISMO elevates the iconic sports car's performance with additional horsepower and torque, NISMO-tuned suspension and brakes, revised aerodynamic bodywork, stiffened suspension and wider wheels with a more aggressive tire compound.

Building on the equipment offered on the Performance grade, interior enhancements include red-anodized engine-start and drive mode buttons, manual-adjust Recaro seats and a leather and Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with a red marker at the 12 o'clock position.

The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO goes on sale this fall. Pricing will be announced at a later date.

Z NISMO design

Exterior revisions to Z NISMO were specifically engineered to improve aerodynamic performance on the race track. As a result of the changes, Z NISMO produces positive downforce.

The front of Z NISMO prominently features a styling element called the "Grand-Nose" or "G-Nose," which extends farther forward than on other grades and recalls a similar design treatment on the heritage Nissan Fairlady 240ZG.

The new front fascia also features a restyled grille opening with the thinnest honeycomb mesh of any Nissan production car. That mesh grille balances the need to reduce drag with permitting cooling air to the engine bay. Canards at the car's front corners create vortexes over the front wheels, further benefitting aerodynamic performance. A subtle red accent runs along the lower edge of the front fascia.

Complementing the G-Nose is a taller, wider rear spoiler (compared to Z Performance) with a three-piece design that extends onto the rear fenders. The rear bumper corners are reshaped to aid with air separation and reduced drag; their shape is inspired by that on GT-R NISMO. A red accent runs from the lower edges of the rear fascia and above the exhaust outlets. Z NISMO's redesigned side sills also help reduce aerodynamic drag and lift.

Above the window line, Z NISMO further stands apart from other grades with a dark metallic gray version of the car's signature katana-blade styling element. Additionally, it has a black-painted roof and gloss-black 19-inch Rays® wheels.

Z NISMO's bodywork is available in a choice of five colours: Black Diamond Pearl, Brilliant Silver, Passion Red TriCoat, Everest White Pearl TriCoat and NISMO-exclusive Stealth Grey.

Elevated interior

Nissan designers carefully enhanced the cabin of Z NISMO to amplify visual appeal without creating unnecessary visual ‘noise'. The engine start/stop and drive mode selection buttons are anodized red. The graphics in the fully digital TFT meter display feature a red outline around the tachometer, a NISMO logo and a special red "flash" during the start-up animation.

Helping to secure the driver and passenger in place are Recaro seats finished in a combination of leather and Alcantara, with a red center section and NISMO logos in the headrests. A new steering wheel features leather and Alcantara trim, with a sporty, racing-inspired red accent mark at the 12 o'clock position.

Targeted enhancements to twin-turbo engine

Z NISMO takes the twin-turbo engine's power outputs up to 420 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, increases of 20 hp and 34 lb-ft compared to other Z grades. Peak torque is delivered from 2,000 through 5,200 rpm, ensuring drivers have strong performance across the rev range.

The engine's horsepower enhancements were achieved through a combination of improved cooling, revised electronic wastegate control providing increased turbocharger boost and turbine speed, and an independent ignition spark timing strategy inspired by GT-R NISMO.

Z NISMO also features an enhanced engine oil cooler for extended track performance.

More dynamic shifting with Sport+ mode

Z NISMO exclusively uses a nine-speed automatic transmission that has been enhanced for faster and more dynamic shifting performance, with a particular focus on suitability for track use. Compared to the transmission in other Z grades, it has revised clutch packs allowing for faster shifting. Along with revised engine management software, Z NISMO's transmission has reduced downshift time by almost half, compared to Z Performance. Launch control also delivers more aggressive standing-start acceleration.

In addition to Normal and Sport, Z NISMO adds a new Sport+ drive mode. This delivers a more dynamic, racetrack-tuned shift program for circuit driving, taking advantage of the powertrain's faster downshift capability. The shift programming is designed to be so responsive for performance driving that a driver does not need to use the shift paddles on track – though fast-responding manual shifting is always available.

Enhanced suspension and tires

NISMO engineers revised every element of the car's suspension to optimize precision, predictability and cornering grip. Z NISMO has unique stabilizer bars, a stiffer spring rate and larger, retuned dampers. The overarching tuning ethos was to deliver accurate, "one-shot" steering that helps drivers to pick their line through a turn with a minimum of steering adjustment needed, contributing to confident track-ready performance.

To deliver maximum road feel and traction, Z NISMO wears Dunlop® SP SPORT MAXX GT600 tires, a version of which are also used on GT-R. The rear tires measure 10 millimeters wider than those equipped on Z Performance (285/35R19 versus 275/35R19).

The tires are fitted to lightweight, NISMO-specific, gloss-black Rays® 19-inch wheels. Although the wheels are 0.5 inch wider than the 19-inch wheels on Z Performance (10 inches wide front, 10.5 inches wide rear), their advanced construction means the NISMO-specific wheels are slightly lighter.

Stiffened chassis

Comprehensive chassis revisions to Z NISMO begin with bracing and stiffening measures that help the car faithfully track and respond to the increased cornering forces enabled by Z NISMO's tires. Enhancements include additional front, rear and rear underfloor bracing, helping increase torsional rigidity by 2.5% compared to the standard grades. Stiffer front and rear suspension bushings, and a stiffer mounting bushing for the steering rack, further increase lateral rigidity.

Track-enhanced brake system

Engineers enhanced the Z NISMO braking system, upgrading the front brakes to larger, 15.0-inch rotors matched to 13.8-inch rear brake rotors, and equipping a more performance-focused brake pad compound. The changes are intended to improve Z's impressive brake pedal feel and enhance braking performance in extended track use scenarios.

2024 Nissan Z keeps sports car excitement alive

For 2024, the Nissan Z Sport and Performance grades continue to offer buyers options to configure a Z that suits their driving style. Both grades feature a standard 3.0-liter V6 twin turbo engine rated at 400 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque starting from 1,600 to 5,600 rpm. A six-speed, close-ratio manual transmission with Exedy® high-performance clutch is standard, while a responsive nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is available as an option.

The Sport grade has a wide range of standard comfort, convenience and connectivity features including a fully digital TFT instrument cluster meter display, 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, two USB ports (one Type A, one Type C), front and rear parking sensors, dual exhaust, Intelligent Cruise Control, Nissan Intelligent Key™ with push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and 18-inch wheels with Yokohama ADVAN Sport high performance tires.

The Performance grade adds an 8-speaker Bose® Audio System, NissanConnect® Services with Wi-Fi hotspot, mechanical Limited Slip Differential, 19-inch RAYS® super lightweight forged aluminum-alloy mounted with Bridgestone Potenza® S007 high performance tires, Nissan Sport Brakes, heated side mirrors, aluminum sport pedals and heated, leather-appointed power seats.

All 2024 Nissan Z models include a range of standard driver assistance and safety technologies, including Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, High Beam Assist and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning.

2024 Ford Bronco Sport Free Wheeling Adds Modern Take On Bronco Heritage, Plus New Black Appearance Package

2024 Ford Bronco Sport Free Wheeling

FORD CANADA -
It’s time (once again) to get into the free-wheelin’ spirit with the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport Free Wheeling special edition, a new addition to the Bronco Sport family inspired by the Ford Free Wheeling trucks, vans and Broncos of the 1970s.

Ordering opens today for the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport Free Wheeling special edition, along with a new Black Appearance package for Bronco Sport Big Bend that adds dark, moody styling elements inside and out.

Bronco® Sport Free Wheeling™ Special Edition

In the late 1970s, Ford introduced the Free Wheeling package on F-100, F-150, Bronco, Econoline van, and more. The limited-run trim level featured graphics with red, orange and yellow gradients. The colorful option packs also added painted steel wheels, and black finishes on the grilles, mirrors, and bumpers. Inside the vehicle featured red and orange pinstriping on the dash and seat stitching.

“Bronco customers appreciate its heritage,” said Jason Hyde, Bronco Sport Marketing Manager. “After such a great response to the reimagined Bronco Sport Free Wheeling project vehicle in 2021, we decided to bring this special edition that ties Bronco Sport to its fun loving roots.”

The red, orange, and yellow sunset-inspired stripes became a focal point of the 1970s package.

“The Ford Free Wheeling package was developed to appeal to younger customers,” said Ted Ryan, Archives and Heritage Brand Manager for Ford. “The Free Wheeling Broncos were as popular as they were distinctive.”

Like the originals, the 2024 Bronco Sport Free Wheeling special edition features reflective red, orange, yellow and silver graphics on the body sides, liftgate, and hood.

Bronco Sport Free Wheeling special edition also adds a silver-painted grille with two-tone Bronco badging and a modified lower front end insert. Rounding out the exterior changes are a Shadow Black roof and 17-inch high-gloss black wheels with red accents.

The interior’s Black Onyx and Dark Space Grey finish includes sunset-colored seat inserts and ombre stitching. The door trim will add a Race Red C Channel and ombre stitching.

The Bronco Sport Free Wheeling special edition also includes all Big Bend standard equipment and drivetrain.

Black Appearance Package

From sunset to the stars, taking inspiration from the dark night skies in remote places is the 2024 Bronco Sport Black Appearance Package which includes a Carbon Black grille and two-tone Bronco lettering.

The Black Appearance Package also includes Matte Black 17-inch wheels, Matte Black hood graphics and a Shadow Black painted roof.  Black accent trim badges and a Smoked Chrome Ford Oval will tie the exterior look together. Inside, the Bronco Sport features Sport Contour seats, and a modified air bag cover with a black bucking Bronco badge. This package is only available on Big Bend models.

“Bronco Sport customers have been asking for the stylish black finishes available on the F-150, Maverick, and Mustang, and we're delivering with the new Black Appearance Package,” said Hyde. “It also builds on the night sky gauge cluster graphics that Bronco Sport customers see that plays a startup screen featuring the Milky Way.”

Bronco Sport will also be available in Azure Grey and Desert Sand for 2024. These two exterior colours are not available on Bronco Sport Free Wheeling or Heritage models.

Latest generation MBUX: The CLE Coupe adopts numerous digital innovations from the new E-Class. With new electronics architecture and the third generation MBUX infotainment system, it is the most intelligent coupe from Mercedes-Benz. It offers an exceptionally interactive entertainment experience with third-party apps and a new level of personalization.

Electrified driving experience: The available engines are exclusively mild hybrids with an integrated starter generator and 48-volt electrical system. In Canada, customers will have access to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain equipped on the Mercedes-Benz CLE 300 4MATIC.

Ford Bronco Sport Becomes First Vehicle to Feature Parts Made of 100% Recycled Ocean Plastic

FORD CANADA -
Consumer products made from recycled ocean plastics include everything from sunglasses and T-shirts to running shoes and yarn. Now, Ford is adding to its legacy as a leader in sustainability and is the first automaker to use 100% recycled ocean plastics to produce automotive parts.

Wiring harness clips in Ford Bronco Sport models are made of ocean-harvested plastic – commonly referred to as “ghost gear.” The strength and durability of the nylon material equals that of previously used petroleum-based parts but with a 10% cost savings and requiring less energy to produce. The small parts represent a large first step in the company’s plans to produce other parts of recycled ocean plastics on other models.

“This is another example of Ford leading the charge on sustainability,” said Jim Buczkowski, vice president of research and Henry Ford technical fellow. “It is a strong example of circular economy, and while these clips are small, they are an important first step in our explorations to use recycled ocean plastics for additional parts in the future.”

Up to 13 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year, threatening marine life and polluting shorelines, according to Pew Charitable Trusts, a global nongovernmental organization. Much of that is attributed to the fishing industry, which has come to rely on plastic fishing nets and other equipment because of the durability, light weight, buoyancy and low cost of the material. Those same qualities contribute to creating ghost nets, a fatal and growing threat to marine life. Ghost gear comprises nearly 10% of all sea-based plastic waste, entangling fish, sharks, dolphins, seals, sea turtles and birds.

Invisible to vehicle occupants, the Bronco Sport’s wiring harness clips, which weigh about five grams, fasten to the sides of the Bronco Sport second-row seats and guide wires that power side-curtain airbags. Despite spending time in saltwater and sunlight, the material is as strong and durable as petroleum-based clips, Ford testing shows.

Spurring jobs creation throughout the development process, the plastic material is collected from the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea by DSM Engineering Materials. Items produced using plastics collected from the oceans include a wide range of consumer goods, but not until now have automotive parts been on that list.

The process begins with DSM harvesting discarded nylon fishing nets. The plastic is washed of saltwater, dried, and extruded to form small pellets, which are then injection-molded by supplier HellermannTyton into the desired clip shape. Ford is already planning additional parts using recycled ocean plastics, including transmission brackets, wire shields and floor side rails – all stationary parts with strength and durability demands that the material can meet or exceed.

“As a global leader in cable management innovation, HellermannTyton strives for eco-friendly ways to pave the path to a more sustainable future,” said Anisia Peterman, HellermannTyton’s automotive product manager. “Developments like this do not come easy, so we are proud to collaborate with Ford in support of a unique product solution that contributes to healthier oceans.”

The Ford legacy of using recycled plastic

For more than two decades, Ford has used recycled plastics not collected from oceans to produce various parts for automobiles. Most recently, the automaker used recycled water bottles to produce lightweight, aerodynamic-enhancing, noise-reducing underbody shields on the 2020 Ford Escape.

The introduction of parts made of recycled ocean plastic opens new opportunities and builds on a global effort to help reduce ocean debris that hampers sea life or, when harvested, further clutters landfills.

The zero tail pipe emission, all-wheel-drive powertrain generates up to 402 hp and 486 lb. ft. of linear torque and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 4.7 seconds. The C40 also offers an anticipated range of around 360 km pending final EPA certification.  Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play are seamlessly integrated for a uniquely helpful and connected driving experience.

The new C40 Recharge benefits from a comprehensive and simplified purchasing and ownership experience. One element being the inclusion of a ‘Care offer’ which, in addition to roadside assistance and the full Volvo New Car Warranty, provides owners with complimentary maintenance service and wear coverage on select items for the first 4 years or 80,000 kms.

The new C40 Recharge will be available in the ULTIMATE specification level and includes every available feature; including the Digital Services Package (4-year subscription) with the Android Operating System, oversized fixed Panoramic Moonroof, Advanced Pixel LED lighting, Pilot Assist, Harman Kardon Premium Sound, 360° Surround View Camera, and Unique 20” wheels. Customers can choose the Fjord Blue Carpet for no additional charge and it may be combined with 4 of the 7 exterior paint colors.

As of December, 2021, interested customers who would like to reserve their C40 can submit a $500.00 deposit online via Volvocars.ca or at their local Retailer. Customers will be able to choose from attractive pre-configured C40s that are ready for simple, transparent, and convenient ordering. Vehicle production begins in Ghent, Belgium this fall with the first Canadian customer deliveries planned for Spring of 2022.

“We’re excited to launch the versatile, pure-electric Volvo C40,” said Matt Girgis, managing director of Volvo Car Canada Ltd. “A streamlining of the purchase process – both online and in store – presents our customers with a transparent, flexible, and convenient way to drive electric.”
