2024 Genesis G80 and G90 secure Top Safety Pick+ honours

GENESIS CANADA -
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that the 2024 Genesis G80 sedan and G90 flagship sedan have earned TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) recognition. The TSP+ award applies to 2024 model-year vehicles built after October 2023, when Genesis modified the rear seat belts in the G90 to improve rear occupant protection. Cars built before that date still qualify for the TOP SAFETY PICK award.

IIHS’ top safety award identifies the best vehicle choices for safety within size categories during a given year. This year’s evaluation upgraded G80 and G90 from their previous TOP SAFETY PICK ranking. G80 and G90 join the 2024 GV60 and GV80 with top honours.

“The top IIHS rating for G80 and G90 vehicles built after October 2023 proves our commitment to safety remains firm,” said Brian Latouf, global chief safety and quality officer for Genesis. “With two more vehicles added to the growing lineup of Genesis models proudly bearing the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation, customer safety endures as a top priority for the brand.”

To qualify for IIHS TSP+, a vehicle must earn:

  • Good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, updated side and moderate overlap front tests
  • Acceptable or good headlights standard across all trims
  • Advanced or superior ratings of a front crash prevention system in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations

To earn the TSP+ award this year, an acceptable or good rating in the updated moderate overlap front test is required, while a good rating in the original moderate overlap front test remains sufficient for the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK.

Before results in the updated tests were available, the G80 and G90 sedans qualified for TOP SAFETY PICK. Genesis maintains a strong commitment to customer safety and following the initial tests modified the rear seat belts in the G80 and G90 to improve rear occupant protection.

All Genesis models are equipped with a comprehensive suite of exceptional active and passive safety technologies including Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning and more. Each vehicle in the Genesis line-up offers standard advanced safety features that help avoid collisions and provide advanced occupant protection if they do occur.

The 2024 Genesis G80 and G90 sedans are equipped with the latest in safety and driver assistance technologies, including:

  • Ten standard airbags, including front centre airbag between the driver and centre console, minimizing collision damage between driver and passengers.
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist* which can help mitigate the risks of collisions with detected vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists in certain conditions.
  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist**, helping reduce the chance of potential impact with a vehicle that is detected in the blind spot.
  • An innovative platform – with strong focus on safety – including passenger compartment protection and reinforcement areas using advanced high strength steel for rigidity and safety.
  • Genesis Connected Services and Connected Care, providing always-on connection and allowing for peace-of-mind safety features like Automatic Collision Notification, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, and SOS Emergency Assistance when the vehicle has access to a cellular network connection.

Genesis unveils Neolun and GV60 Magma concepts, showcasing futher evolution of the brand

Genesis Neolun concept

GENESIS CANADA -
Genesis unveiled two new concept vehicles and officially launched a high-performance program at Genesis House New York, marking a critical milestone in the brand’s evolution.

As the brand’s first full-size electric SUV concept, the Genesis Neolun Concept embodies the ultimate Genesis hospitality behind the wheel with an array of state-of-the-art technological features. The Genesis GV60 Magma Concept, within the wider Genesis Magma program, redefines the boundaries of performance and luxury, delivering an experience that ignites passion and exhilaration with every ride.

Neolun: Futuristic Innovation Meets Warmth of Korean Hospitality

The name “Neolun” is derived from the Greek “neo,” or new, and the Latin “luna,” which means moon. Together, it encapsulates Genesis’ technological innovation that exceeds conventional standards and sets forth the brand’s vision for the future.

“The Neolun Concept was inspired by Korea’s iconic moon-shaped porcelain jars,” said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke. “It’s the epitome of timeless design and sophisticated craftsmanship.”

The Neolun Concept’s exterior revolves around the principle of “reductive design” — characterized by clean, refined lines that deliberately eliminate any unnecessary details.

The most prominent exterior feature are the distinctive coach doors, without any B-pillars connecting the vehicle’s body and roof. Compared to conventional vehicle structures, this layout provides a much more open interior space and maximizes convenient passenger access. Development of the B-pillarless coach doors has reached a level where its application to production vehicles is now feasible.

The electric side steps are automatically deployed when the doors open, making it easier for passengers to step in and out of the vehicle. When the doors close, the side steps integrate back into the vehicle to maintain a seamless exterior design.

The body-integrated lighting seamlessly blends with the vehicle’s front and rear design, conveying strength and grandeur. In line with reductive design, the centre high-mounted brake light is incorporated within an intricately detailed perforated pattern. The pop-up type roof rack accentuates the SUV identity of the Neolun Concept while harmonizing with the vehicle’s sleek body line.

The Neolun Concept stands out with a captivating two-tone scheme called “Midnight Black” and “Majestic Blue,” which takes after Korea’s serene night sky and enhances the vehicle’s elegant design.

Inside, the Neolun Concept’s cabin represents a modern reinterpretation of Korea’s distinct hospitality culture. From the moment passengers enter through the B-pillarless coach doors, they are greeted by a spacious cabin that accentuates comfort and relaxation.

Inspired by Korea’s traditional “ondol,” the innovative solution allows for efficient radiant heating throughout the vehicle, with films applied to the dashboard, door trims, floor, seatbacks and console sides. Ondol is a Korean heating method that utilizes direct heat transfer underneath the floor to provide warmth, often found in traditional and modern homes throughout the country.

The swiveling function of the front-row seats maximizes space and practicality for passengers, as the large adjustable display screen and the flexible display that unfolds from the rear-seat headliner offer a sensory-stimulating experience.

The cashmere in the shade of “Royal Indigo” blends seamlessly with the vintage-inspired “Purple Silk” leather, which has been naturally dyed with organic pigments, setting a deeply relaxing mood. Completing the luxurious finish is the dark-coloured real wood floor.

The Neolun Concept’s sound system features an advanced “sound architecture” that optimally places tweeters, mid-range speakers, woofers and subwoofers for an immersive audio experience. Each speaker is strategically positioned to create a concert hall-like feel, ensuring that passengers enjoy unparalleled sound quality. As the speakers are activated, the crystal sphere at the front, designed to create an emotional connection between the driver and the vehicle, rotates into a tweeter.

Genesis GV60 Magma concept

Magma: High-Performance Meets Driving Fun

The Magma program adds a new dimension to Genesis, marking the brand’s expansion into the realm of high-performance vehicles. Genesis ultimately aims to develop a high-performance Magma model for each production vehicle in the existing lineup, maximizing both aesthetics and performance. Revealed for the first time, the GV60 Magma Concept will be among the Genesis Magma program models headed for production.

“Genesis Magma presents an exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of performance and luxury for new interpretations in high-performance vehicles, with the ultimate goal of developing models exclusive to Genesis,” said Donckerwolke. “The brand will continue to reveal experimental concepts with careful consideration of both technological and aesthetic elements. While speed and performance are important, the Genesis Magma program will look beyond, prioritizing the driving experience to kindle the joy of sporty driving with effortless comfort.”

The GV60 Magma Concept elevates the design and performance of the existing GV60, Genesis’ first dedicated EV model, with improved battery and motor technology. The concept car is the first step toward creating a deeper emotional connection between the driver and the vehicle.

The GV60 Magma Concept’s exterior design harmonizes aesthetics with considerations for chassis, aerodynamics and thermodynamics. To enhance stability during spirited driving, the car has been widened and lowered, giving it a more dynamic stance and allowing for a lower centre of gravity

At the front, a wider and lower main air intake in the bumper effectively cools the batteries, motor and brakes, while the air curtains enhance the car’s aerodynamic efficiency. Three stamped holes above the main air intake, inspired by the GV80 Coupe Concept and the G80 Magma Special, provide additional cooling. Added canards assist in generating downforce on the front axle.

The enlarged fenders with integrated outlets help reduce kinetic energy and improve cooling for the brakes. The titanium-coloured flow-formed 21-inch wheels feature integrated aero discs, which also help cool the brakes. On the roof, fins have been strategically placed to control the aerodynamic flow and channel it to the rear wing, generating rear downforce and ensuring aerodynamic fluidity.

The GV60 Magma Concept’s distinctive exterior design extends into the luxurious and sporty interior. Highlights include bucket seats with body-colored seatbacks, upholstered in nappa and suede leather, featuring double-diamond stitching patterns in Magma’s iconic orange colour and titanium grey.

“The GV60 Magma Concept will deliver ample power, instilling customers with the confidence to drive with pure excitement and exhilaration,” said Donckerwolke.

Displayed alongside the GV60 Magma Concept at Genesis House New York were the three other vehicles in the Magma program: GV80 Coupe Concept, G80 Magma Special and X Gran Berlinetta Concept.

Unveiled for the first time in April 2023, the GV80 Coupe Concept is Genesis’ first coupe SUV, and the first Genesis vehicle to have been presented in the Magma colour. It was the vision for the production GV80 Coupe, launched last November.

A select number of partner companies with expertise in high-performance vehicles have come together to develop the G80 Magma Special, an enhanced version of the G80 with improved driving performance. The G80 Magma Special will be exclusively available in the Middle East.

Revealed last December in Barcelona, Spain, the X Gran Berlinetta Concept is the ultimate expression of the brand’s high-performance design potential.

Racing legend Jacky Ickx, who was appointed Genesis Brand Partner in February, said during the event that he looks forward to lending his expertise to the Magma program, adding that he has always admired Genesis for its cultured elegance and design aesthetics.

The GV60 Magma Concept, G80 Magma Special, X Gran Berlinetta Concept and Neolun Concept will be displayed alongside other Genesis production models at the 2024 New York International Auto Show, slated to open to the public on March 29th at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

Genesis Electrified GV70 wins Best Residual Value by Canadian Black Book

GENESIS CANADA -
Genesis Motors Canada proudly announces that the 2024 Electrified GV70 has been awarded Canadian Black Book’s 2024 Best Residual Value Award in the Electric SUV category, for vehicles above $60,000. This accolade underscores the Electrified GV70's exceptional value retention, as measured by the forecasted percentage of its original price after four years. Genesis took the top spot in the segment, followed by the Mercedes-Benz EQE and Volvo C40 in second and third place, respectively.

"We are incredibly honoured to have the 2024 Genesis Electrified GV70 recognized by Canadian Black Book. This award is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and our vision for the future of electrification," says Eric Marshall, director of Genesis Motors Canada. "The Electrified GV70 exemplifies our dedication to providing consumers with vehicles that offer elegant styling and dynamic performance, as well as a frictionless ownership experience."

Now in its third year, the Best Residual Value Awards have expanded to include crossovers in various categories. Reflecting the continued shift of consumer preferences towards SUVs, categories now recognize Compact, Sub-compact, Mid-size, and Full-size models in both mainstream and luxury segments.

“There are more EVs on the roads; more people researching, buying, and leasing them; and more options from automakers,” said Daniel Ross, CBB’s senior manager of industry insights and residual value strategy. “They are becoming common and, therefore, consumer education is increasing, which helps bring up residual values.”

Presented during the 2024 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, the Best Residual Value Awards forecast the residual value of 2024 model year vehicles into 2028, highlighting the significance of long-term quality and sustainability in vehicle ownership. This recognition marks a milestone for Genesis in the EV space, reinforcing the brand's commitment to innovation and quality.

AutoTrader.ca awards Genesis GV70 Best Overall SUV for 2024

GENESIS CANADA -
A month after being voted as the Best Compact Luxury SUV, the Genesis GV70 and Electrified GV70 have now been awarded Best Overall SUV in Canada for 2024 by AutoTrader.ca. Following the announcement of a category win, the GV70 was among the overall Grand Prix winners announced at a private ceremony to present the 2024 AutoTrader.ca Awards.

The Electrified GV70 was launch in 2023 as a fully-electric version of the award-winning SUV, offering consumers more options for a luxury utility vehicle that suits their needs and exceeds their expectations.

After evaluating and considering every single new vehicle that’s available for sale in Canada, more than 20 automotive journalists from all over the country place their votes in over 30 categories. Overall, 12 key criteria are thoroughly analyzed - including design, innovation, engineering excellence, quality, and safety. Perhaps most importantly, the jury votes for vehicles they would feel confident recommending to their own family and friends.

The AutoTrader.ca Awards are considered by consumers to be among the most trusted and comprehensive automotive awards in Canada, with winners being chosen for setting a benchmark for their respective segments.

“A great deal of care and attention has gone into the development of the GV70,” says Eric Marshall, director of Genesis Motors Canada. “We are both humbled and grateful to the AutoTrader.ca team of voting jurors for recognizing our achievements and presenting us with such significant awards.”

The GV70 compact luxury SUV won its category in 2023 and was once again selected as the best in the segment for 2024.  The vehicle impressed the jury once again with its winning combination of styling, composed yet dynamic driving sensibilities, luxurious interior, and intuitive integration of technology. In this increasingly competitive segment, they agreed that the compact luxury SUV continues to have what it takes to stand out ahead of the crowd. The Electrified GV70 builds upon this formula, but without a traditional internal combustion engine. Robust electric all-wheel drive propulsion provides unrelenting acceleration and balanced handling, which is wonderfully complemented by a smooth, serene driving experience that is well suited to a luxury vehicle.  Push the steering wheel-mounted Boost button to unleash even more performance.

“These Grand Prix winners received the most votes out of all category winners from our expert jury and represent the best of the best,” says Jodi Lai, AutoTrader’s Editor-in-Chief. “As part of AutoTrader’s commitment to Canadian car buyers, we hope they can feel confident with these expert choices, as they all raise the bar in an important way.”

"We thank the esteemed AJAC jurors for acknowledging our efforts and dedication to excellence.”

Semi-finalists of the four Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) categories are selected following thorough, real-world evaluation. The 48 voting AJAC members from across Canada test each vehicle they vote on, evaluating a wide range of factors, including performance, technology, design and value. This year’s results were tabulated from over 600 anonymous ballots and verified by the audit and advisory firm KPMG. The results are kept confidential until winners are unveiled on stage at the kick-off of the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.

"Integrating electric vehicles into its lineup just three years ago, Genesis has swiftly positioned it as a luxury leader in electrification with two of its models securing two prestigious accolades,” said Evan Williams, President of AJAC. “This remarkable achievement, as recognized by AJAC, not only showcases Genesis's commitment to luxury and innovation but also underscores its excellence in crafting vehicles that set the gold standard in the EV segment."

Genesis Canada launches new brand platform at Canadian International Auto Show

2025 Genesis GV80

GENESIS CANADA -
Genesis Motors Canada launched its new brand platform, “Centred Around You”, this morning during a press conference at the Canadian International Auto Show. Along with the unveiling of the first-ever 2025 GV80 Coupe, Genesis debuted the next chapter of its Canadian growth strategy. The platform leverages the brand’s unique Canadian business model and many key differentiators that benefit guests and owners who are at the centre of all it does.

Through messaging and imagery that illuminate the brand’s business processes and key differentiators, Genesis Canada aims to highlight what makes it stand out – a unique business model as well as a frictionless acquisition and effortless ownership experience.

A relative newcomer to the automotive industry, Genesis made waves in 2016 when it launched in Canada with an innovative and unique business model. Working with the most effective and entrepreneurial retailers across the country, it developed agency partnerships with a network of 30 distributors in key markets.

“With a strong foundation built on guest enthusiasm and referrals, Genesis Canada is now ready to take the bold move to introduce itself and its brand promise to the general population of Canada,” says Eric Marshall, director, Genesis Motors Canada. “We are evolving the common understanding that Genesis is a traditional car company to a brand that offers a guest-centric lifestyle experience for its owners.”

Offering online ordering and direct sales with transparent, all-inclusive pricing, the Genesis at Home model allowed for guests to arrange test drives, vehicle delivery and complimentary scheduled maintenance paired with valet services, promising unprecedented flexibility and demonstrating respect for their time.

Exceptional Products, Guest-Focused Experiences
Initially launching with two luxury sedans (G80 and G90), the product lineup has grown in recent years to include three sedans, three SUVs, and the launch of three full EVs in just the last two years. As accolades and sales continue to increase, distributors have increased their investment in the brand by constructing physical GRX (Genesis Retail Experience) centres. This new omni-channel approach means that guests have the ability to facilitate any portion of the acquisition and ownership journey at a modern Genesis showroom or a convenient location of their choosing, such as home or place of work. From online vehicle configuration and ordering, trade-in appraisal, credit application, and scheduling of an at-home delivery, the entire journey can be completed through Genesis.ca.

More Than Words
“Centred Around You” is more than a tagline or slogan; it is a way of thinking, speaking and doing business. “Son-Nim” is a Korean term rooted within the culture that means Honoured Guest. This concept has been wholly integrated into the evolution of our business processes, training and certification programs

This led Genesis Motors Canada to be the first automotive manufacturer in the world to be In Partnership with Forbes Travel Guide. Distributor team members are trained and evaluated by the global authority on hospitality. That endeavour to have luxury automotive retail and service mirror the hospitality experienced staying at five-star hotels, dining at top-rated restaurants, and business class travel. Those that receive the In Partnership with Forbes Travel Guide certification have proven that they deliver these elevated levels of hospitality.

“This campaign was developed to distinguish Genesis in the Canadian market,” says Genesis Motors Canada Marketing Manager Ryan Erdelyi. “This comes through in the offering itself, but also the way in which we’ll deliver it – with imagery, storytelling, and music that are driven by high-quality lifestyle-inspired photography to show the ways in which our brand attributes enhance the lives of owners.”

This connection between design, language, and product is working for Genesis, leading to an uptick in recognition. Starting with aspirational products and a resonant message is the first step toward its success. This evolution in messaging focuses on the following truth: “At Genesis, you are our honoured guest, at the centre of everything we do and everything we make.”

Genesis is carving out its own niche within the luxury automotive space where small touches and attention to detail can stand out and make a big impression.

Genesis Canada launches digital key on 2024 models

2024 Genesis G70

GENESIS MOTORS CANADA -
Genesis Motors Canada is pleased to announce the integration of the new Digital Key for 2024 models, starting with the new enhanced 2024 G70 sport sedan. The Digital Key1 allows the owner to lock, unlock and start their Genesis vehicle using a compatible smartphone or smartwatch. This technology also allows the main user to share access to a Digital Key with up to three users, wherever they may be.

Collaboration with smartphone companies has allowed a wider variety of iOS and Android phone users to gain digital access to their Genesis via the Digital Key convenience feature. Using Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology, Digital Key allows customers to safely operate a Genesis vehicle without requiring a traditional key. After installing the Digital Key, users can unlock their vehicle by simply holding their device against the driver door handle without even opening the app. Once inside, the device simply needs to be placed in the wireless charging tray. Push the Start button and the vehicle is ready to go.

Although two traditional proximity keys remain standard on all Genesis vehicles, there’s no need to carry a key fob once the Digital Key is activated. Owners of Genesis models compatible with Digital Key can also purchase an NFC Card Key that can be used when valeting the vehicle or having the vehicle serviced.

Another great feature of Digital Key is the ability to enable vehicle operating access to family or friends at any time. The key can be used with compatible Apple, Samsung, and Google devices using text/SMS or a messaging app to share the key. Up to three keys can be shared simultaneously, and all users can set up their own presets for driver-seat and mirror position, climate, audio preferences and more. The primary user can control when a shared key can be used and can end a shared key’s capability at any time.

“Digital Key demonstrates the leading role Genesis is taking in creating a frictionless experience for its guests,” says Aryan Habib, manager of connected vehicles and telematics at Genesis Motors Canada. “Through active collaboration with our partners in the smartphone industry, we will continue to enhance customer experience and car connectivity.”

Digital Key is one of the first services in the automotive industry to support cross-platform compatibility for contactless sharing of digital key capabilities between smartphones. Genesis unveils X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept at GT World Series World Finals in Barcelona

GENESIS MOTORS CANADA -
Genesis unveiled the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept at the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Barcelona, Spain. The concept car was created as part of Polyphony Digital’s Vision Gran Turismo series and will be available to race in the game from January 2024.

The 2024 X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept embodies the most emotional expression of the Genesis brand’s characteristic Athletic Elegance design philosophy. The Concept was born from a design study that demonstrates Genesis’ passion and intent for the Vision Gran Turismo series.

The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept’s design language is pure and muscular with volumes centered around the wheels. Its design orchestrates the cab backwards proportions with Genesis’ typical anti-wedge attitude that is structured around a virtual parabolical tensioned theory, which is common to the Genesis model lineup. The package design maximizes the dash-to-axle ratio while moving the driver and powertrain rearward for a lean mid-engine layout.

“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” says John Krsteski, Genesis Senior Chief Designer. “We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design elements as well as technical performance attributes. It has become a catalyst of inspiration for our other programs.”

The X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept sports Genesis’ new front fascia, which abstracts the Crest Grille and links it with the Quad Lights. This structures the volumes and connects the front and rear with Genesis’ Two Lines brand identifier in a lightweight aerodynamic construction. Flowing through the bodyside past the gently arching front fender, the parabolic gesture is a sculpturally dominant feature, accentuating the powerful rear fender forms.

The fuselage extrudes towards the rear, culminating in an elliptical concave volume, which is common to Genesis vehicles. It is framed by a rear spoiler and lateral trailing edges for aerodynamic high-speed stability. The contrast of energetic body sculpture with technical aero details creates the ultimate expression of grand touring spirit.

The Magma colour continues the X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept’s energetic theme. Inspired by the Genesis brand’s Distinctly Korean ethos, the bold hue references Korea’s volcanoes and the emotion, passion and vibrancy of the nation’s culture.

High performance was clearly the goal for Genesis designers, who worked to achieve impressive aerodynamic fluidity. By integrating aerodynamic aids and orchestrating internal and laminar flows, the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept’s drag coefficient stands at just 0.34.

The X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept’s interior derives Genesis’ Beauty of Openness attitude by creating a purist environment for the pilot. The essential functions are prioritized to maximize focus while on the racetrack. The digital panoramic interface serves as an information centre. It is linked to the surround digital monitoring system, which provides unobstructed views of nearby vehicles. The steer-by-wire grip commands allow for precise and decisive maneuvering, giving the pilot a competitive edge.

The carbon cabin strategically incorporates soft touch points wherever the driver comes into contact. The quilted, padded bolsters protect the pilot while racing and while exiting and entering the car during pit stops.

The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept is powered by a front mid-mounted Lambda 11 V6 engine, electrically assisted by Genesis E-SC technology. The hybrid race-spec drivetrain delivers a total of 1,071 hp and 986 lb-ft of torque, ensuring that this car is as powerful as it is beautiful. The V6 screams at 10,000 RPM while delivering a maximum output of 870 hp and 790 lb-ft, while the Yasa E motor generates an additional 201 hp and 196 lb-ft of torque.

Gran Turismo 7 players who watch the Manufacturer’s Cup broadcast in GT7 will receive early access to the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept as a gift in January 2024. By clicking on the campaign banner in the top right corner of the GT7 world map screen to watch the broadcast from 19:00 CET on December 2nd and onwards, players will have the car delivered directly to their garage in the January update.
