The new Volvo EX30 Cross Country – it’s an experience, not just a car

Volvo EX30 2025

VOLVO CAR CANADA -

Sweden is our home. Deep lakes, endless forests, great mountain ranges, some of the harshest winters on the planet – and some of the best and most enjoyable cars ever made. So today we unveil not only the new Volvo EX30 Cross Country, but a whole new experience to go with it.

Revealed as part of a literal fireside chat including outdoors equipment brand Fjällräven at a secluded winter cabin in the north of Sweden, the EX30 Cross Country is designed for people who want big experiences from their small, fully electric SUV.

It takes the successful recipe of the
EX30 and adds rugged ingredients, making it perfect for the growing number of people who want to explore beyond their crowded cities – come rain, come shine, or when everything is covered in snow and ice.

We think that ‘Cross Country’ should be an experience, not just a car, so alongside the EX30 Cross Country we’re also launching a new experience package for customers who buy the car, with access to accessories, gear and information aimed at giving you the full potential to explore the great outdoors.

“We launched our first Cross Country car over 25 years ago, and this concept of durable and all-weather cars is core to the Volvo brand,” said Jim Rowan, Volvo Cars’ CEO. “In Sweden we face harsh winters, but we also like to make the most of them by getting out and exploring our amazing nature, even when it’s minus 20 Celsius outside. That’s why we want to deliver a fully rounded experience, not simply a car, to our EX30 Cross Country customers.”

From city to trail
As a small SUV, the EX30 Cross Country is perfect for the city. It is fully electric, with zero tailpipe emissions, and can be charged from 10-80 per cent in as little as 26 minutes. But it also has several extra features that enable a seamless switch from one natural EX30 habitat to another.

For example, we’ve raised the car higher off the ground compared with the standard EX30, to help you navigate rough terrain more easily and make those regular countryside outings even easier.

Naturally, the EX30 Cross Country also comes with all-wheel drive, making it more than capable of handling the tough and slippery conditions that are part and parcel of life outside the city.

A style to match ability

The first model in our Cross Country range was introduced in 1997. Designed to cope with the demanding Scandinavian climate, our Cross Country cars perform in a wide variety of road conditions – from muddy tracks and ankle-deep snow to highway driving – with the comfort and convenience elements that Volvo drivers have come to expect.

While its real-world capabilities come first, the EX30 Cross Country is also designed to excel in more diverse conditions – and to look good while doing so.

The front shield of the car and the trunk get a special dark colour, with the front featuring a unique piece of artwork showing the topography of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden – an inspiration for many of our designers. Chunky front and rear skidplates as well as wheelarch extensions complete the more rugged look and underline that this car is ready to get out into the wild.

Functional and as safe as you’d expect from a Volvo car
Inside, the EX30 Cross Country is highly functional and contains all the clever tech, storage and design that made the original EX30 such a hit from the moment we revealed it. The doors contain large storage compartments, because we removed the speakers and incorporated them into the soundbar on the dashboard.

A versatile central storage tunnel between driver and passenger can be slid out as a cupholder for your morning coffee or your travel mug, or back if you need to store more things. There’s also a big storage compartment on the floor between driver and passenger. The glove compartment has been placed beneath the center console, providing easy access for both driver and passenger.

Rear passengers get a neat storage box that slides out from beneath the central tunnel. This box is also removable and washable, so can double up as a waste bin. At the rear, on the liftgate, we included a handy ‘Will it fit?’ guide, so you know exactly how much of your gear you can get in.

Like every new Volvo car, the EX30 Cross Country has Google built-in. That means you get a variety of Google products as standard – including Google Maps, one of the best mapping systems in the world. Finding your way to the most remote nature locations was never easier. To make sure you can get straight into a nice warm car, the Volvo EX30 app allows you to precondition your car while you’re still exploring nature.

And naturally, the EX30 Cross Country is as safe as you’d expect a Volvo car to be. We have applied our high standards of protective safety should you need it, but aim to help prevent you getting into a collision in the first place with some clever tech. Braking and steering support will help you avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, while a driver monitoring sensor will give you a nudge if it seems like you are distracted or tired.

Embrace the experience

To further bring the Cross Country concept to life, we’re also launching a Cross Country Experience, to create concrete, tangible benefits that will help you to embrace your inner explorer even more. This means that EX30 Cross Country owners will benefit from an array of bespoke offers. Think of a dedicated, discounted ‘Cross Country Experience’ package of accessories for your car, which includes a load carrier, a roof basket, and mudflaps*.

We aim to announce further offers in due course.

“We know that more and more people are seeking ways to get closer to the nature,” says Jim Rowan. “This is why with our new Cross Country Experience, we aim to create an entire ecosystem around those models, supporting our customers as they embrace adventure.”

In short, the new Volvo EX30 Cross Country is an all-road car that delivers safety, comfort and performance in a capable and adventurous package. The Volvo EX30 Cross Country will be available in Canada later this year.

  • Official EPA range will be released at a later date.
  • Charging times are dependent on factors such as outdoor temperature, current battery temperature, charging equipment, battery condition and car condition.
  • *Subject to local availability – offer may differ between individual markets.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan introduces extensive updates for 2025

MERCEDES-BENZ CANADA -
Mercedes‑Benz continues to develop the EQS Sedan and its portfolio of all-electric vehicles with new updates and innovations incorporated more quickly than ever before. For 2025 model year, the EQS Sedan introduces numerous upgrades with a new larger battery for increased electric range, refined front fascia featuring a new grille design and Mercedes-Benz standing star on the hood, as well as new standard and optional equipment to enhance comfort for rear passengers. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan arrives at Canadian dealerships later in 2024.

All 2025 EQS Sedan models benefit from an all-new battery with an increased usable capacity of 118 kWh for improved electric range. In addition, new regenerative braking software enables greater energy recuperation.

Due to the high proportion of recuperation with regenerative braking, the brake discs in the EQS Sedan are used less often during regular driving compared to models with combustion engines. A special function helps maintain the brake system by automatically applying the pads to the discs from time to time.

Modern styling combined with the iconic Mercedes star

A distinguishing feature of Mercedes‑Benz all-electric vehicles is the deep black panel grille, which connects seamlessly with the headlights. The design of the EQS Sedan is now refined with a unique front fascia. The new grille design features flush-mounted chrome slats for an elegant contrast to the deep black surroundings. A new standing star on the hood – unmistakably Mercedes-Benz – and a standard AMG Line bumper provide further visual refinement.

Other exquisite details are also reflected in the interior of the EQS Sedan. Chrome accents now adorn the climate control vents on the B-pillars. The comfort pillows for rear passengers are enhanced with contrast stitching and Nappa leather piping.

Expanded rear comfort features

EQS Sedan models equipped with the optional Pinnacle Trim with Executive Interior Package feature a front passenger seat that can also fold forward to provide additional space for second row occupants, along with a backrest for the rear seat that can be adjusted up to 38 degrees. Rapid heating rear seats, neck and shoulder heating for rear passengers, as well as pneumatic adjustment of the rear seat depth are also included. Another exclusive element is the illuminated trim accents integrated into the back of the front seats.

Enhanced comfort also extends to the standard rear seats in the EQS Sedan. The angle of the backrest for the rear seats can be adjusted from 27 to 36 degrees at the touch of a button, and an additional 5.08 mm (0.2 inches) of foam has been added to the rear seat backrest. The layered design also visually emphasizes the individual comfort for passengers.

Did you know?…

...the MBUX Hyperscreen is standard on the EQS Sedan, as of 2024 model year. Three displays merge almost seamlessly into one another, creating a curved screen band over 55 inches wide.

...the standard heat pump increases climate comfort and efficiency. The waste heat from the electric drive (inverter and electric motor) and high-voltage battery can be used to heat the interior. This significantly reduces the need to utilize battery power for the heater and increases electric range.

...the Disconnect Unit (DCU) in 4MATIC models automatically decouples the electric motor on the front axle depending on the driving situation and the required performance. At low loads, the DCU switches to 4x2 driving mode. The electric motor and transmission on the front axle then come to a standstill, which increases electric range.

...the recuperation level of the EQS Sedan has been increased. The greater deceleration (up to 3 m/s2) means more energy recovered and therefore a greater range. Mercedes‑Benz has also optimized the braking system, starting with the 2024 EQS Sedan, for a better pedal feel thanks to a modified brake force cylinder.

...the EQS Sedan can be easily started and locked with the standard KEYLESS-GO comfort package and Digital Vehicle Key1 with compatible devices2. Key sharing is also possible.

...other models with the EVA 2 fully electric architecture (EQS Sedan, EQS SUV, EQE Sedan, EQE SUV) will also benefit from many of these improvements.

INEOS Automotive introduces the INEOS Fusilier - One vehicle, two powertrains

2025 INEOS Fusilier

INEOS AUTOMOTIVE -
INEOS Automotive has unveiled its brand new 4X4 vehicle, the INEOS Fusilier, following the confirmation of a zero-emission model line in May 2022. The new vehicle will deliver world-class off-road capability, with zero compromise to on-road performance, and offers both zero and low emission options.

Unveiled in London by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, it was confirmed that alongside the previously announced all-electric powertrain (BEV), a low emission range-extender electric is in development to ensure the INEOS Fusilier meets the broadest range of global consumer needs while pushing towards decarbonization. The range-extender option consists of a small petrol engine that powers a generator to maintain the charge level of the battery for when external charging isn’t available. Confirmation of the alternative powertrain details and launch timings are expected by autumn 2024.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Chairman of INEOS says, “As we developed this vehicle, we quickly concluded that in order to move towards decarbonization but continue making cars that consumers want to drive, we need a mix of powertrain technologies. BEVs are perfect for certain uses: shorter trips and urban deliveries, but industry and governments need to have realistic expectations around other technologies that can help accelerate the necessary pace of change. That is the reason we are offering an additional powertrain for the Fusilier, one that dramatically reduces emissions but has the range and refuelling capabilities needed.

Developed in conjunction with industry-leading automotive supplier, Magna, which will also manufacture the vehicle in its facility in Graz, Austria, the INEOS Fusilier will represent a unique proposition for customers. Building on the Grenadier’s DNA with a modern direction and distinctive identity, the new 4X4 will be slightly shorter in length and slightly lower in height. It will be built on a bespoke skateboard platform with a steel top hat and underbody, and aluminum doors and closures.

INEOS partnered with Magna on the development of the Grenadier station wagon and Quartermaster pick-up. As one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers and independent contract manufacturers, Magna produces a number of conventional ICE, hybrid and electric vehicles for various automakers. Part of the development process for the INEOS Fusilier will include a rigorous testing program on Austria's Schöckl mountain, close to Magna's complete vehicle assembly facility in Graz.

Lynn Calder, CEO of INEOS Automotive, comments, “Announcing our third model line is another significant milestone for INEOS Automotive, cementing our intent as an automotive manufacturer – like our full vehicle line-up, we are here for the long-haul.”

Demonstrating its wider commitment to future decarbonization, INEOS Automotive also unveiled a Grenadier Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology Demonstrator at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023. The Demonstrator proves that the technology for a hydrogen-powered 4X4 is capable and ready for production, but the refueling infrastructure needs to be in place before it is commercially viable.

Genesis Canada launches new brand platform at Canadian International Auto Show

2025 Genesis GV80

GENESIS CANADA -
Genesis Motors Canada launched its new brand platform, “Centred Around You”, this morning during a press conference at the Canadian International Auto Show. Along with the unveiling of the first-ever 2025 GV80 Coupe, Genesis debuted the next chapter of its Canadian growth strategy. The platform leverages the brand’s unique Canadian business model and many key differentiators that benefit guests and owners who are at the centre of all it does.

Through messaging and imagery that illuminate the brand’s business processes and key differentiators, Genesis Canada aims to highlight what makes it stand out – a unique business model as well as a frictionless acquisition and effortless ownership experience.

A relative newcomer to the automotive industry, Genesis made waves in 2016 when it launched in Canada with an innovative and unique business model. Working with the most effective and entrepreneurial retailers across the country, it developed agency partnerships with a network of 30 distributors in key markets.

“With a strong foundation built on guest enthusiasm and referrals, Genesis Canada is now ready to take the bold move to introduce itself and its brand promise to the general population of Canada,” says Eric Marshall, director, Genesis Motors Canada. “We are evolving the common understanding that Genesis is a traditional car company to a brand that offers a guest-centric lifestyle experience for its owners.”

Offering online ordering and direct sales with transparent, all-inclusive pricing, the Genesis at Home model allowed for guests to arrange test drives, vehicle delivery and complimentary scheduled maintenance paired with valet services, promising unprecedented flexibility and demonstrating respect for their time.

Exceptional Products, Guest-Focused Experiences
Initially launching with two luxury sedans (G80 and G90), the product lineup has grown in recent years to include three sedans, three SUVs, and the launch of three full EVs in just the last two years. As accolades and sales continue to increase, distributors have increased their investment in the brand by constructing physical GRX (Genesis Retail Experience) centres. This new omni-channel approach means that guests have the ability to facilitate any portion of the acquisition and ownership journey at a modern Genesis showroom or a convenient location of their choosing, such as home or place of work. From online vehicle configuration and ordering, trade-in appraisal, credit application, and scheduling of an at-home delivery, the entire journey can be completed through Genesis.ca.

More Than Words
“Centred Around You” is more than a tagline or slogan; it is a way of thinking, speaking and doing business. “Son-Nim” is a Korean term rooted within the culture that means Honoured Guest. This concept has been wholly integrated into the evolution of our business processes, training and certification programs

This led Genesis Motors Canada to be the first automotive manufacturer in the world to be In Partnership with Forbes Travel Guide. Distributor team members are trained and evaluated by the global authority on hospitality. That endeavour to have luxury automotive retail and service mirror the hospitality experienced staying at five-star hotels, dining at top-rated restaurants, and business class travel. Those that receive the In Partnership with Forbes Travel Guide certification have proven that they deliver these elevated levels of hospitality.

“This campaign was developed to distinguish Genesis in the Canadian market,” says Genesis Motors Canada Marketing Manager Ryan Erdelyi. “This comes through in the offering itself, but also the way in which we’ll deliver it – with imagery, storytelling, and music that are driven by high-quality lifestyle-inspired photography to show the ways in which our brand attributes enhance the lives of owners.”

This connection between design, language, and product is working for Genesis, leading to an uptick in recognition. Starting with aspirational products and a resonant message is the first step toward its success. This evolution in messaging focuses on the following truth: “At Genesis, you are our honoured guest, at the centre of everything we do and everything we make.”

Genesis is carving out its own niche within the luxury automotive space where small touches and attention to detail can stand out and make a big impression.

The Illumination Package, now standard on Reserve, includes an illuminated Lincoln star on the grille, adaptive pixel LED headlamps, speed dependent lighting, adaptive bending lighting, and Lincoln dynamic signature lighting with LED daytime running lamps.

“The new Aviator looks more planted with a more dynamic presence than ever before. The changes we made to our signature grille shows our laser-focus on details and design that pulls you in. And with our new lighting features which we call ‘jewelry,’ the Lincoln star comes to life and immediately catches your attention.” – Kemal Curic, design director, Lincoln
