Polestar 2 gets increased range, efficiency and performance alongside a lower carbon footprint

POLESTAR - Polestar has improved the range, efficiency and performance of Polestar 2 while simultaneously reducing its carbon footprint as part of significant updates for the 2024 model year.

Polestar 2 can now travel up to 20% further, consume up to 9% less energy, and charge up to 34% faster, thanks to hardware upgrades including larger batteries and new motors.

 

“We absolutely love Polestar 2 – such a stylish, fun car to drive. Our engineers have worked hard to integrate important upgrades that really enhance the overall package, and they’ve made it even better. We are proud to see we can do this without increasing its carbon footprint, but rather reducing it,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

 

The Long range Single motor is now certified for up to 320 miles EPA, and maximum DC charging speed is now up to 205 kW for the single-motor version with a new 82 kWh battery. New motors are more efficient, and a change to rear-wheel drive for the single-motor version and a rear-bias for the dual motor version also means Polestar 2 is even more fun to drive, with power delivery benefitting from weight shifting over the driven wheels.

 

Since Polestar 2 deliveries began in 2020, its cradle-to-gate carbon footprint has been continuously reduced. Low carbon aluminium in wheels and the battery tray, a switch to renewable electricity in the factory, and for the latest MY24, improved battery chemistry, are some of the contributing factors.

 

The strive to constantly improve performance through each model year is an important strategy for Polestar that, combined with the relentless, simultaneous turning of every stone to save CO₂e, is one of Polestar’s differentiating factors.

Polestar announces pricing and availability for the significantly enhanced 2024 Polestar 2

POLESTAR - Polestar (Nasdaq: PSNY) announces a starting MSRP of $54,950^[1] for the significantly updated 2024 Polestar 2, which will begin customer deliveries in summer of 2023. Both the single motor and dual motor variants feature more range, new motors, enhanced performance and increased standard equipment. In addition, Polestar 2 is eligible for the Federal Government iZEV Incentive of $5,000, and up to $4,000 in the Province of British Columbia, and $7,000 in the Province of Quebec.

 

The newest Long range single motor Polestar 2 features a plethora of standard equipment and much faster charging – now up to 205 kW DC. Included now as standard for all variants are the Blind Spot Information System with steer assist, Cross Traffic Alert with brake support, park assist sensors, 360-degree cameras, and auto-dimming door mirrors. The award-winning vehicle now has an increased estimated EPA combined range of up to 515 kilometers, a rear-wheel drive configuration, and an all-new motor producing 299 hp – 68 more than its predecessor. This new drivetrain further enhances the vehicle’s already outstanding handling characteristics and performance.

 

Starting at $62,950^[1], the Long range Dual motor Polestar 2 now comes with the Pilot Pack as standard equipment, previously a $4,700 option. This includes Pilot Assist driver assistance aids, Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Stop Assist, Rear Collision Warning and Mitigation, and LED front fog lights with cornering function. Furthermore, the dual motor Polestar 2 features a rear-biased drivetrain with a new, asynchronous rear motor, increasing the overall power output to 421 hp and increasing estimated range up to 444 kilometers^[2]. The new front electric motor can be disconnected when not required, further enhancing efficiency and extending range.

 

For customers desiring even more performance, the dual motor Polestar 2 is available with the optional Plus and Performance packs. The Performance Pack includes upgrades such as low-drag Brembo brakes, newly designed forged alloy wheels, Öhlins DFV (Dual Flow Valve) adjustable dampers, an uprated 455 hp, a 0-100 km/h sprint of 4.2 seconds, and “Swedish Gold” accents including the seat belts.

 

The optional Plus Pack for $3,000, which was previously $5,700, includes a range-enhancing heat pump, premium sound by Harman Kardon, a large panoramic moonroof with a reflected Polestar symbol, heating for the steering wheel, rear seats and wiper nozzles, and an interior air quality system, among other additions.

 

The 2024 Polestar 2 carries over its overall vehicle safety rating of 5 stars by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This is the highest possible score a vehicle can achieve in NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), and places the Polestar 2 amongst the absolute safest vehicles on sale today.

 

2024 Polestar 2 deliveries are scheduled to begin in August 2023, and is available to configure and order on Polestar.com.

Polestar to debut Polestar 5 electric performance 4-door GT prototype and Polestar 2 BST edition 270 at 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed

POLESTAR - Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car company, is returning to the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 23 June 2022 and will debut a Polestar 5 prototype and the new high-performance, limited-edition Polestar 2 BST edition 270. Polestar’s electric roadster concept and its existing product range will also be present.

 

“Goodwood is our favorite place to show our cars in an enthusiast environment,” comments Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath. “This year, we are thrilled to showcase Polestar 5 going up the hill! Our UK R&D team is doing an amazing job developing the car, and we are proud to be able to highlight their hard work at this early stage.”

 

The Polestar 5 prototype will be stationed in the First Glance Paddock and complete several drives up the hill during the event. Polestar Precept, the concept car that is evolving into Polestar 5, will be on the main Polestar stand, together with Polestar’s electric roadster concept and the Polestar 2 BST edition 270.

 

The updated Polestar 2 will be positioned in Electric Avenue, and Polestar will again host its exclusive test drives adjacent to the main event area at Molecomb, where visitors will have the opportunity to book a Polestar 2 test drive on a closed route on site.

 

Polestar has debuted various cars at the iconic event over the years – including the Polestar 1 prototype in 2018 and the Experimental Polestar 2 in 2021. The limited-edition Polestar 1 in Sun and the Experimental Polestar 2 will be stationed alongside the Polestar 5 prototype in the First Glance Paddock, and also drive up the hill.

Polestar begins delivering on 65,000 electric vehicle partnership with Hertz

POLESTAR - Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car manufacturer, has begun delivering new Polestar 2 electric cars to Hertz as part of the agreement announced in April 2022, under which Polestar will supply the global car rental giant with 65,000 cars over the next five years.

 

The partnership between Polestar and Hertz is one of the largest single orders for electric cars ever made. The start of deliveries signifies Polestar’s operational capability as a relatively mature brand in a space heavily populated by early-stage start-ups.

 

Polestar’s long-term plan is to increase annual sales to approximately 290,000 cars by the end of 2025. This growth is already underway – Polestar has taken over 32,000 customer orders for Polestar 2 since the start of 2022, representing an increase of 290% versus the same period in 2021.

 

“Our partnership with Hertz is an exciting milestone that provides the opportunity for a significant number of potential new customers to experience an EV for the first time, and it will be in a Polestar,” says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. “With over 55,000 Polestar cars already on the road across our 25 live markets there is no doubt that our brand is growing at an incredible pace.”

 

Hertz is initially receiving Polestar 2, the award-winning EV which has established Polestar’s position as a premium EV manufacturer. Polestar 2 is also featured in the current Hertz “Let’s go” marketing campaign, further reinforcing the partnership between the two companies.

Polestar 2 offers avant-garde Scandinavian design and leading in-car technology, including the world’s first built in infotainment system powered by Android Automotive OS from Google. The Hertz agreement includes forthcoming Polestar models such as the Polestar 3 electric SUV which has its world premiere in October 2022.

 

In addition, Hertz is now adding the Polestar 1 electric performance hybrid to their Dream fleet as well, to allow customers to experience the high-performance carbon fiber sports GT firsthand.

Polestar 2 ‘BST edition 270’ embodies Polestar’s performance DNA

POLESTAR - Polestar is expanding its tuning-based Polestar Engineered product offering with the introduction of the Polestar 2 BST edition 270. The new version leverages decades of tuning experience to deliver Polestar’s most dynamic electric driver’s car yet. As implied in the name, only 270 units will be built, exclusively for Europe, North America and China. Up to 20 units are planned for the Canadian market.

 

“We had a great reaction to the specially modified Polestar 2 we showed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2021 and the response made it clear – we should create a version like that for production,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

 

The production car includes mechanical modifications along with key design enhancements to elevate itself above standard Polestar 2 models. The result is a car that delivers a superior dynamic experience behind the wheel.

 

The two electric motors and 78 kWh battery have been enhanced for a maximum power output of 476 hp (350 kW) and 502 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque, along with heightened responsiveness to go with the sportier dynamics.

 

Chassis modifications include lowered ride height (-25 mm), specially developed and unique Öhlins 2-way adjustable dampers with auxiliary adjustment chambers mounted under the bonnet, a front strut bar, 20% stiffer springs and unique new matte black 21-inch alloy wheels that are inspired by those of Polestar 1. Tires are 245/35R21 Pirelli P Zero, developed specifically for this car. The standard 4-piston Brembo brakes remain.

 

The limited-edition model is available in either Thunder or Snow exterior colors with a Charcoal WeaveTech interior. The body features a more substantial expression thanks to fully painted bumpers and side skirts. A matte black body stripe is available as an option, as well as a full-body Battleship Gray satin wrap. Side mirrors are finished in glossy black. The signature ‘Swedish gold’ details remain, including on the brake calipers, damper elements, valve caps and seatbelts.

 

Interested customers in applicable markets are invited to express their interest at Polestar.com, after which Polestar Specialists will coordinate a personalized sales process. Production is planned to begin in mid-2022, with deliveries expected from the fourth quarter.

Polestar to debut first-ever Super Bowl ad

POLESTAR - Polestar, the pure-play premium electric car company, has announced that it will debut its first-ever Super Bowl ad during the game on February 13, 2022. The 30-second spot will air in the first quarter of the game, and the company has teased the spot with a 15-second preview. This is the first time Polestar will advertise during such an internationally watched and recognized sporting event.

The ad centers around Polestar’s ethos of ‘no compromises’ and features the Polestar 2 electric performance fastback. As with its products, the spot will toss aside traditional expressions for big-game advertising.

Staying true to Polestar’s minimalist brand identity, the graphical ad is visually simple, allowing punchy words in white on black to share the message.

“The Super Bowl is an iconic event and I’m excited to bring Polestar’s message to such a wide audience,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “We are a young and ambitious brand. We believe in ‘no compromises’, for our design language, our sustainability efforts, and the performance of our cars, and we wanted to share that philosophy with this ad. The ad supports Polestar’s progress as it continues to drive growth in the coming years. In January 2022 the company announced that it delivered on its global sales target of 29,000 vehicles in 2021, representing year-on-year growth exceeding 185%.

 

In 2021, Polestar also announced its plans to launch three new cars over the next three years. The first of these, Polestar 3, a premium electric performance SUV, is expected to launch in 2022. As previously announced, Polestar intends to manufacture Polestar 3 in both China and the US. Polestar also intends to list on the Nasdaq in a proposed business combination with Gores Guggenheim, Inc. (Nasdaq: GGPI, GGPIW, and GGPIU), which is expected to close in the first half of 2022.

Unique Polestar 2 ‘Arctic Circle’ exhibits Swedish EV engineering expertise

POLESTAR CANADA - Polestar cars engineers its vehicles in extreme conditions in various places around the world – from the searing heat of Arizona to the bitter cold of northern Sweden. As a Swedish premium EV manufacturer, it is this especially cold environment where Polestar’s engineering expertise comes to the forefront and sets the brand apart.

 

Utilizing this expertise, Polestar chief chassis engineer – and trophy winning rally driver – Joakim Rydholm created the unique Polestar 2 ‘Arctic Circle’ as a one-off special version of the performance-oriented electric fastback, bringing winter rally inspiration to a Polestar for the first time. Rydholm has led the dynamic development of Polestar vehicles for over a decade and advocates tuning in this extreme winter environment.

 

“Tuning a chassis on snow and ice allows us to develop our cars in what feels like slow motion and with better accuracy,” says Rydholm. “With such low levels of grip, we can feel and analyze the dynamics at a much slower pace than on tarmac, which means we can really fine-tune the way our cars behave, down to the smallest details. These are my absolute favorite conditions to develop cars in.”

 

To make the Polestar 2 Artic Circle, a Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor with Performance Pack received several specific tweaks in order to be agile on snow and ice. Changes include: a raised ride height (+1.18 in / +30 mm), increased power and torque output (469 hp / 350 kW and 502 lb-ft / 680 Nm) and custom-made 19-inch studded winter tires (245/35 R19), each featuring 0.16 in / 4 mm metal studs (490 per tire).

 

The three-way performance Öhlins dampers were specially designed and tuned for this car together with Öhlins, including springs 30% softer than those found in a road-going Polestar 2. They are set to nine clicks front and rear – slightly softer than the standard Polestar 2 with Performance Pack setting – and the dampers feature auxiliary adjustment chambers. Front and rear strut braces have been fitted to increase torsional rigidity and steering responsiveness. The 4-piston Brembo front brakes from the Performance Pack are unchanged from the production vehicle. A prototype launch control system has also been integrated via steering wheel-mounted paddles. A carbon fiber snow shovel and a recovery strap are mounted in the rear of the car – winter accessories that are equally as stylish and functional.

 

Visually, rally inspiration includes the fitment of 19-inch OZ Racing wheels, four Stedi Quad Pro LED front lights and a unique exterior livery in matte grey and white. Inside, custom-upholstered Recaro front bucket seats in charcoal are accented by Ohlin’s “Swedish gold” branding. The front bumper features a carbon fiber skid plate for additional underbody protection.

 

“I wanted to have more fun than usual with this car – really being able to push it in terms of performance and handling in a winter environment like a frozen lake. The balance and predictability we have achieved with the raised ride height and specialized tires are particularly noticeable when you enter a bend completely sideways, with a bigger-than-usual smile on your face, and in total control,” said Rydholm.

 

Executed within the Arctic Circle at a latitude of over 66-degrees north, Polestar’s intense winter testing program runs annually for 15 weeks from December to March and sees teams of engineers pushing prototypes – and themselves – to the limit.
