2024 Ford Mustang GT California Special Adopts Modern Style as Classic Package Returns

2024 Ford Mustang GT California Special

FORD CANADA -
Standing out on the road has been a hallmark of the Ford Mustang® experience for 59 years. And now, as Mustang prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary, Ford is putting a modern, vibrant spin on the popular California Special®.

“The original California Special package was geared toward California’s optimistic and carefree driving culture. We’re refocusing on those elements for the 2024 Mustang GT California Special, which brings vibrant style that looks as at home on Colorado Boulevard as it does on the Pacific Coast Highway,” said Mustang Brand Manager Joe Bellino. “Rave Blue is such a distinct and exciting colour, it really does make the California Special stand out not only from other Mustang models, but from previous California Special models.”

The California Special package features eye-catching Rave Blue details. The signature colour appears on the nostril intakes, which flank a new horizontal-slat grille complete with low gloss black strakes. The headlights are surrounded by black bezels while Mustang GT California Special-specific graphics in Medium Light Rave Blue and High- and Low-Gloss Black appear on the lower body sides.

The California Special package is available with two 19.0-inch wheel options. The standard Carbonized Gray wheels have a GT/CS pad-printed logo in Rave Blue, while the optional Performance Pack wheel combines a machined face with Rave Blue pockets. The 5.0-litre engine badge on the front fenders and the GT badge at the back add Rave Blue outlines to black centres – like the GT Performance Package, there is a Performance Pack-specific badge. The GT/CS badge in the grille is also finished in Rave Blue.

Blue accents are prominent throughout the California Special package’s interior, where perforated Navy Pier upholstery and Ebony Black leather covers the seats. Further elevating its style is dual-colour contrast stitching with Raptor Blue and Metal Gray threads that extend to the dash and doors. The same stitching is also available for the steering wheel and centre console. A California Special IP badge and GT/CS floor mats round out the interior changes.

“Mustang has a rich well of special edition models to draw from, and we’ll continue to reinvent them for a new audience,” Bellino said. “From the track-ready Dark Horse to the world-beating Mustang GTD, Ford is elevating the Mustang for all audiences. The new, modern Mustang GT California Special is a perfect example of our drive to build a Mustang for every customer.”

The California Special package adds $2,595 CAD to the price of a Mustang GT Premium and is available in Coupe and Convertible body styles with either the six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2024 Mustang GT California Special makes its public debut on November 16 at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show. Order banks open today, and customers can build their own Mustang with the California Special package at Ford.ca.

Polestar 5 electric 4-door GT to debut exclusive new Polestar electric powertrain

POLESTAR -
Polestar is showing a development prototype of the Polestar 5 in public for the first time at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed (June 23-26). Polestar 5 is a high-performance electric 4-door GT with proper sports car credentials, and the production evolution of the Precept concept car first shown in 2020.

Pete Allen, Head of Polestar UK R&D, says: “Polestar 5 is shaping up to be a superb 4-door GT and a true Polestar at heart. The platform combines low-volume performance car attributes with modern technological advances to bring light-weight, high-rigidity sports car chassis technology into mass production.”

The UK team has taken the opportunity of working with a new mechanical platform to design and develop a unique bonded aluminum chassis, a prime factor in delivering the vehicle dynamics signature to create a driving experience that is as desirable as the design.

In Sweden, development of a new top-of-the-line electric powertrain is ongoing. A new rear electric motor will provide superior output, along with 800-Volt architecture. Combined with a high-output front electric motor, the complete dual motor powertrain aims to deliver 884 hp (650 kW) and 663 lb-ft (900 Nm).

Jörg Brandscheid, Polestar’s CTO and Head of R&D, says: “The new powertrain we are working on will set a new brand benchmark in our high-performing cars. Combining strong electric motor engineering ability with advances in light-weight platform technology is leading to truly stunning driver’s cars.”

Polestar 5 will run up the iconic Goodwood hill twice daily during the event in the “First Glance” group. The car is planned for launch in 2024 and is the third of three new EVs expected to be launched by Polestar in the coming three years, following the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 electric SUVs.

Polestar’s YouTube documentary series shows how the company is transforming the Precept concept into the production Polestar 5 in a lot more detail than is usually revealed during a car project.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, comments: “Polestar 5 is a company-defining project. Its progressive design and advanced engineering set the tone for Polestar’s future. We have great talent on board enabling us to create truly iconic EVs.”
