VOLVO CAR USA / CANADA - After a record year in 2023 Volvo Car USA and Canada sold 8,309 cars in January, more than a quarter of which were Recharge models with a fully electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain.Sales in the U.S. reached 7,716 cars, up 0.3 percent over the same period last year. Recharge models accounted for more than 24 percent of that figure, while the share of fully electric models was more than three percent.In Canada sales reached 593 cars, more than 50 percent of which were Recharge models, an increase of nearly three percentage points over the same period last year. The share of fully electric models was more than 21 percent.For January the Volvo XC90 was the top-selling model in the U.S. with sales reaching 2,437 cars (2023: 2,510 cars), followed by the XC60, with total sales of 2,298 cars (2023: 2,515 cars), and XC40 at 1,694 cars (2023: 1,641). Sales of the S60 compact sedan gained the most of all models, increasing 133 percent to 834 cars (2023: 358 cars)."We had a great year in 2023 and look forward to continuing the momentum as we work toward achieving our goal of being a fully electric automaker by 2030," said Michael Cottone, President, Volvo Car USA and Canada."

Barrett-Jackson Holds Record-Breaking 2024 Scottsdale Auction with $207.6 Million in Total Auction Sales, Most in Company History

BARRETT-JACKSON – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions, supercharged its kickoff to the 2024 auction calendar with their flagship Scottsdale Auction, January 20-28 at WestWorld of Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. In dynamic fashion, the event featured its largest auction docket in company history with 2,016 collectible vehicles, all selling with No Reserve, for $200.9 million in auction sales. Additionally, Barrett-Jackson sold 1,180 pieces of authentic automobilia for $6.7 million, bringing total auction sales to $207.6 million, the most for a single auction in Barrett-Jackson history, with a 100 percent sell-through rate and over 190 world-record auction sales. Top auction sales included a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing (Lot #1406) for $3.41 million and a 2018 Bugatti Chiron (Lot #1378) for $2.97 million.
“It was a tremendous event this week in Scottsdale with our largest docket in history, a record number of bidders, and an impromptu live performance by Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “We continue to set the bar within the hobby with record-breaking sales like the 1956 300SL Gullwing, and our top sales reflect both the quality and diversity of our docket with a superb mix of classic sports cars, supercars, pre-war classics and Resto-Mods.”

The automotive lifestyle event kicked off with its inaugural “Rock the Block” concert presented by Arizona Lottery featuring live performances from iconic rock bands Foreigner and Night Ranger. Highlights of the opening weekend included: Barrett-Jackson’s QuikTrip Family Day, designed to bring in the next generation of enthusiasts with STEM Fest presented by Honeywell; the introduction of the coveted Barrett-Jackson Cup presented by Castrol; a Pinewood Derby with Boy Scouts from the Grand Canyon Council; and the second iteration of the Future Collector Car Show presented by Meguiar’s at WestWorld of Scottsdale.
The first weekend concluded with the Opening Night Gala, an annual celebration that marks the beginning of Barrett-Jackson’s auction week. The Gala, a renowned automotive lifestyle event, featured dozens of law enforcement officers from the Scottsdale Police Department being honored and the presenting of colors, as well as acclaimed live entertainment from Emerald City Band and DJ Munition, gourmet food and signature cocktails.
“Our Scottsdale Auction showcased the vibrancy of the collector car hobby,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “With over 2,000 vehicles, this was the largest entirely No Reserve public consignment auction for collector cars in history. Jaw-dropping Resto-Mods, customs, trucks and supercars crossed the block among exceptional concours-level classics, giving every generation of collectors an opportunity to buy their dream car.

Several of the most powerful moments during the 2024 Scottsdale Auction included the sales of four charity vehicles that together raised $1 million. The charity vehicles that sold during the Barrett- Jackson 2024 Scottsdale Auction include:
- 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 3LZ (Lot #3000) - $270,000 to benefit the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation for Amyloidosis Research, including $50,000 donated by philanthropist and longtime member of the Barrett-Jackson family, Michelle Mauzy.
- 1968 Shelby GT350 Convertible Re-Creation (Lot #3001) - $100,000 to benefit the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation by providing scholarships to students enrolled in the Carroll Shelby Automotive Program.
- 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Custom Pickup (Lot #3002) - $325,000 to benefit Building Homes for Heroes, including $50,000 donated by Mauzy and an additional $25,000 from Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis.
- 2024 Ford Mustang Darkhorse VIN 001 (Lot #3003) - $375,000 to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, including $50,000 donated by Mauzy and $25,000 from The Elayne Snyder Acts 20:35 Foundation.
With 1,180 authentic pieces of automobilia auctioning for $6.7 million, the top three automobilia sales included:
- 1960s Cougar Oil of Alabama double-sided porcelain service station sign (Lot #9470) - $155,250
- 1960s Mopar neon porcelain channel letter sign (Lot #9493.1) - $115,000
- Circa 1940s-50s Mobil Oil neon porcelain rotating Pegasus sign (Lot #9489.4) - $105,800
During the week, entertainment icons, professional athletes and titans of the industry joined auction guests to indulge in the world’s most immersive automotive lifestyle event. Celebrities in attendance included musicians such as Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Chase Rice; entertainment icons such as Daymond John, Rob Schneider, Adam Ferrara and David Spade; automotive industry personalities Danny Coker, Chip Foose and Aaron Shelby; as well as current and former professional athletes including Larry Fitzgerald, Bill Goldberg, Kyle Larson, Paul Tracy, Kurt Busch, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, Jacoby Ellsbury, Marco Estrada and members of the Arizona Ridge Riders PBR team.

Barrett-Jackson to Auction VIN 001 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse in Scottsdale with 100% of the Hammer Price Benefiting JDRF

BARRETT-JACKSON – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions, will continue its longstanding tradition of offering VIN 001 vehicles for charity with the sale of the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse VIN 001 (Lot #3003) during the 2024 Scottsdale Auction held January 20-28, at WestWorld of Scottsdale. One hundred percent of the hammer price of the all-new Mustang, which will cross the auction block at approximately 6:30 PM MT on Saturday, January 27th, will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

The heart of 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse VIN 001 (Lot #3003) is an all-new fourth-generation Coyote 5.0-liter V8 engine with a dual air-intake box and throttle-body design. The engine sends 500 horsepower and 418 ft/lbs of torque to a 6-speed TREMEC manual transmission. This Ford Mustang Dark Horse includes coolers for the transmission, engine oil and rear axle, and improved engine cooling capability.
Inside the Ford Mustang Dark Horse is the most technologically advanced, driver-centric cockpit of any Mustang yet. From a flat-bottomed steering wheel to a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster with customizable screens, the car delivers an extraordinary driving experience.
