Nissan announces the all-new Sentra Cup 2021 schedule

NISSAN CANADA -
The Nissan Sentra Cup will begin its first-ever season this spring. Building on the Micra Cup’s six years of success in Canadian motorsport, the all-new Sentra Cup will be a one-make racing series exclusive to Canada with the same concept and rules as the former Micra Cup. Recently launched in 2020, the all-new Nissan Sentra represents the spirit and heart of motorsport. Its wider and lower athletic stance makes the Sentra more than capable of handling the most difficult race tracks in Canada.

The Sentra Cup will kick off its first race at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park from May 21-23. In June, Sentra Cup drivers will be the first of the new series to race on the prestigious Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada.

“We’re thrilled to see the all-new Sentra hit the track just one year after its arrival to the Canadian market,” says Steve Milette, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “At Nissan Canada, we are all counting down the days until we launch the brand new Sentra Cup with a packed race schedule this season.”

With minimal modifications, the Sentra is well-equipped to be pushed to the limit this season. The Nissan Sentra race car keeps its stock 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission found in the Sentra, while adding a racing suspension, racing brake pads and advanced safety equipment. Each competing Nissan Sentra race vehicle will have the exact same specifications to ensure that driver’s skills are put to the test in a completely fair – yet exciting – manner.

Preliminary testing reveals the Sentra’s handling characteristics, speed and reliability provide ample agility and power, resulting in action-packed races this season. The Sentra Cup race car endured extensive testing handled by a team of motorsport specialists, including professional driver Jean-François Dumoulin, to guarantee the reliability of each vehicle.

This year, Nissan has continued its partnership with J.D. Promotion and Compétition, marking an extension of the collaboration which began with the Nissan Micra Cup’s inception in 2015. All competing Sentra vehicles will be modified by Motorsports In Action and can be ordered directly through J.D. Promotion and Compétition, at an affordable price of $39,990 CAD.

“Since the announcement was made a month ago, my phone has not stopped ringing. I’m very happy to see such a huge interest from many former and new drivers to race in the Sentra Cup at the biggest motorsport events in Canada this summer,” says Jacques Deshaies, owner of JD Promotion & Compétition and the series promoter. “I can’t wait to announce who will be racing this upcoming season very soon.”

Micra drivers are encouraged to continue racing in the Class Micra category this season, with each race including the usual top three podium finishes, separated between Class Micra and Sentra Cup drivers. At the end of the season, there will be one champion for the Sentra Cup and one for the Class Micra.

The final 2021 regulations for the Nissan Sentra Cup will be published within the coming weeks.
