Drive a Prius Plug-In Hybrid for a Week with Toyota Canada’s Hybridizer contest

TOYOTA CANADA - Wondering how much money driving a hybrid will save you? If an electric car will work for you? Or what emissions you are currently producing on your weekend get-away drive?

Toyota Canada introduces the Hybridizer, an online educational tool that allows Canadians to compare a conventional gasoline powered vehicle, a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and an electric vehicle.

These powertrains are featured in typical driving scenarios like the daily commute, a weekend getaway or a road trip, and the Hybridizer tool shows drivers what fuel or electricity charging costs they face as well as charging times and total emissions.

And now Canadians have a chance to experience what it's like to drive in a hybrid that plugs in, with Toyota Canada's Hybridizer contest. Gas it up like a regular car or plug it in for electric-only operation - you decide what works best.

The contest, which runs until April 31, will offer five lucky winners the opportunity to drive a 2012 Prius Plug-In Hybrid vehicle (PHV) for a week.

"With rising gas prices, Canadians are always looking for the most fuel efficient way to handle their daily commute. The Prius PHV, which joins the Prius family this year, offers drivers exceptional fuel consumption due to Toyota's advanced Hybrid Synergy Drive technology," said Stephen Beatty, Chief Environmental Officer at Toyota Canada Inc. "The Hybridizer tool gives Canadians the opportunity to experience how a hybrid or electric vehicle can fit into their lives."

The 2012 Prius PHV, which arrives in Canada in 2012, is a five-passenger mid-size liftback that gives Canadians versatile packaging, perfect for short daily commutes, or long road trips. The 2012 Prius PHV will be revealed at this year's Canadian International Auto Show and features Toyota's renowned Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain system, and adds a lithium-ion battery pack that allows up to 25 kilometres of complete EV driving up to 100km/h, with a short charging time of only three hours using a regular household outlet. When the PHV's battery pack is depleted in EV range, the Prius PHV seamlessly switches to full-hybrid mode with regenerative braking, electric motor assist, and pure EV driving at low speeds and short distances.
