Toyota’s newest environmentally-friendly vehicles make Canadian debuts at the Canadian International Auto Show

TOYOTA CANADA - Toyota marked the latest stage in the evolution of hybrid and plug-in vehicles in Canada by unveiling four all-new models at the Canadian International Auto Show yesterday: the Prius c, Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV), Prius v and 2012 Prius.

The Prius c, which goes on sale in March, is the smallest Prius yet, with the "c" representing "city." It will be the most fuel efficient vehicle in the market without a plug, offering an unmatched combined fuel efficiency of 3.7L/100 km. With an MSRP of $20,950, it will also be the lowest priced hybrid in the market.

The Prius PHV has the shortest charge time of any plug-in hybrid on the market, delivering about 25 kilometres of all-electric drive between charges, while providing the security of defaulting to full-hybrid drive.

"Prius has become an icon for green mobility," said Seiji Ichii, President of Toyota Canada, Inc. "The Prius c is sized, priced, styled and packaged to appeal to young buyers on a budget. And the Prius PHV represents the next logical step in attracting mainstream buyers to plug-in cars."

Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive has been adapted to the smaller platform of the Prius c, with each of the system's major components re-designed, to reduce weight and improve efficiency. The vehicle features a body structure that uses lightweight, high-strength steel to help reduce vehicle mass and improve fuel economy. Nine airbags and Toyota's Star Safety System are standard. The Prius c is being offered in three distinctive trim levels, with a generous array of standard equipment and premium technology options.

The Prius c and PHV join a family of vehicles that also includes the versatile new Prius v, which offers more cargo space than 80% of the small SUVs on the market, and the new 2012 Prius Liftback, which features an updated interior and exterior and the lowest MSRP in its history.

The Toyota Prius c, Prius PHV, Prius v, 2012 Prius and Toyota RAV4 EV will each be on display at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, February 17-26. The Toyota exhibit is on 800 Level of the South Building at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
